Housing at Los Alamos during World War 2. Interior of a typical house built at the Los Alamos laboratory for people working on the Manhattan Project in 1943-45. The Project, managed by the Army, was the successful US effort to design and build the first nuclear bombs. Security was paramount, so the Los Alamos laboratory was sited in a remote part of New Mexico. As the Project gathered momentum, there was a large influx of scientists and workers and their families. A variety of apartment types was built to house them, some more 'luxurious' than others. Note the copy of 'Better Homes' magazine.
