Watermill. This is Gants Mill, a watermill near Bruton in Somerset, England. The mill now produces electricity by harnessing the energy of falling water. Records of a mill here date to 1290, when permission was given for John le Gaunt (after whom the mill is named) to build a fulling mill (using hammers to pound cloth). The mill was then used in the production of silk, and later to grind corn to feed animals. The mill is part of a group of ten supplying power to the area as part of a scheme to increase small-scale hydroelectric power. About 15 homes will be supplied with energy from this mill, which supplies about 12 kilowatts (kW) of power. It began operating in April 2004.
