Storage tank at the Shell Haven oil refinery before it closed. The refinery closed at the end of 1999. The site is to be used for a new container port. With a quayside measuring 2.3km long and a 700 acre commercial site the new London Gateway port would be the UK's largest container port, handling 3.5 million 20ft containers. In the 1950s, the newly built refinery was used as a location for the filming of Quatermass II, a cult science fiction film.
