Artist's impression of a Navstar Block 2R Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite. GPS Block 2R satellites will be launched from 1995, providing the ability for military users to pinpoint their location to an accuracy of better than 30m. For civil users, the signal from GPS is altered to give a maximum accuracy of 100m. A total of 20-26 Block 2R satellites will be purchased, at a 1991 cost of $913 million.
