The model satellite has 71.5 square feet of silicon solar cells arranged on two panels, which are continuously pointed at the sun. The solar cells produce 740 watts of power, which is sufficient to charge the nickel-cadmium batteries & drive the operating functions of the spacecraft. Visible also are the curved antenna reflectors, support towers & the antenna horns.
