She is backdropped over the Aegean Sea (lower centre). This was during the Discovery Space Shuttle mission STS-96 (27th May - 6th June 1999). She is guiding part of an American-built crane on to part of the ISS. The crane will be used to supply the ISS in the future. Jernigan is anchored on a mobile foot restraint (lower left) connected to the shuttle's remote manipulator system (RMS). The ISS will be completed in 2003 and will be used to study the effect of weight- lessness on materials & biological tissues.
