STS-57 extravehicular activity (EVA). Astronaut Peter Wisoff photographed standing at the end of the Shuttle's Remote Manipulator System arm during an EVA. At the bottom of the frame are the foot restraints which hold the astronaut to the RMS arm, as well as the safety line. The RMS is used to manoeuver astronauts to allow them to capture objects such as satellites. This EVA was part of Mission STS-57 of 21 June to 1 July 1993. It was intended to investigate EVA techniques for the servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, or any future Space Station and to gain general EVA experience both for the astronauts and the ground controllers.
