Flute in space. Astronaut Ellen Ochoa, seen entertaining her fellow crew members during Shuttle Mission STS-56. In what must be the highest-altitude recital in musical history, Ochoa played such gems as the hymns of the US Marine Corps and US Navy and 'God Save the Queen' before settling in to some Vivaldi. In addition to her talent for music, Ochoa holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University. Ochoa was selected as an astronaut in 1990, and made her first space flight on this mission. STS- 56 flew on 8-17 April 1993.
