Spacelab-J experiment. Astronaut Mae Jemison seen during a life science experiment in the Spacelab-J science module. The headband and other equipment being worn by Jemison, herself a qualified doctor, was part of the Autogenic Feedback Training Experiment (AFTE). This is an ongoing programme studying the possibility of controlling space motion sickness by biofeedback methods. Space motion sickness is a major part of Space Adaptation Syndrome (SAS), with which many astronauts suffer. Spacelab-J was a joint venture between NASA and the Japanese space agency NASDA, and flew on Shuttle Endeavour's STS-47 mission of 12-20 September 1992.
