This photograph, taken during the 41-C Shuttle Mission, shows the repaired Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) satellite in the Shuttle's cargo bay. The remote manipulator system (RMS), seen on the right of the frame, was used to capture the satellite and place it in Challenger's cargo bay. Mission specialists James D. van Hoften and George D. Nelson then changed its faulty attitude control module and the repaired satellite was successfully redeployed. The photograph was taken by 41-C pilot Francis R. (Dick) Scobee through the flight deck's aft window. At this point in the seven day flight, the Shuttle was obiting the Earth at an altitude of 285 nautical miles.
