German payload specialist Ulf Merbold carries out experiment using the gradient heating facility. 90% of the experiments carried out in Spacelab-1 were successful. This mission, STS-9 space shuttle Columbia, was launched on 28.11.83 from Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
