Lunar landing module. The lander (upper centre), Intrepid, is hovering over the Ocean of Storms area of the Moon. Intrepid is making final manoeuvres at an altitude of 111 kilometres, before it lands on the Moon's surface. The Apollo 12 mission of 1969 (14-24 November) was the second manned mission to the Moon. As well as scientific experiments during the 31-hour mission, parts of the unmanned Surveyor 3 probe of 1967 were reclaimed. Photographed by the astronaut Richard Gordon aboard the orbiting command module, Yankee Clipper.
