Cell division. Immunofluorescent light micrograph of a cell during cytokinesis, the final stage of cell division (mitosis). During mitosis, the genetic material (DNA, pink) of a cell divides with the help of microtubules (blue). The DNA ends up at either end of the cell. Cytokinesis completes the process by splitting the cell to form two genetically-identical daughter cells (left and right). A ring of actin protein fibres (green, centre) contracts around the centre of the cell, pinching it in two. Immunofluorescence uses antibodies to attach fluorescent dyes to specific cell tissues.
