This area is surrounded by follicular cells and fluid (white, turquoise), which formerly provided nutrients and protection to the ovum in the ovary. The ovum is surrounded by a thick layer of cells, the corona radiata and is rolling down the surface of the ovary (brown), known as the germinal epithelium, towards the Fallopian tube.
