Ganglion nerve cells in adrenal gland. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of ganglion cells in the medulla of the adrenal gland. This cluster of nerve cells forming a ganglion is part of parasympathetic nervous control in the adrenal gland. The cells have terminal nerve fibres and smaller dendrite projections. Some fractured cells show secretory granules (orange) inside. The medulla region of the adrenal gland produces the hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline; secretion of these hormones occurs during stress, and is triggered by sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve control.
