Here, the plasma membrane has been removed to reveal internal organelles - nucleus, Golgi apparatus, mitochondria & endoplasmic reticulum. Bundles of neurofilaments and microtubules involved in the transport of molecules along the nerve processes appear in red inside the dendrite at far left. Dendrites of other nerve cells terminate as synaptic endings (boutons) on the cell membrane.
