Male pelvic floor, vertical section artwork. The pelvic floor provides support to the pelvic organs, such as the bladder and prostate, and maintains continence as part of the anal and urinary sphincters. The 4 strands at centre right make up the piriformis muscle. This muscle attaches to the spine (right) and thigh bone and acts to laterally rotate and stabilise the hip. The 3 sets of muscles below this are the coccygeus, iliococcygeus and pubococcygeus. These muscles comprise the majority of the pelvic floor and support the pelvic organs. At centre left is the obturator internus, which stabilises the hip. At bottom left is the penis and at bottom centre is the anus.
