MODEL RELEASED. Hospital pathology laboratory scientist examining a section of human bone through a light microscope. Such thin, undecalcified, resin-embedded sections are essential in the diagnosis of a range of metabolic bone diseases including osteomalacia (rickets), osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) and Paget's disease of bone. A cutting machine (out of view at right) shaves a small block of resin-embedded bone into slices 7 microns thick. At right is the control equipment, with some stained & mounted glass slides resting on top. Model: Julie Wilks
