Physiological research. Researchers preparing a pressure chamber for use as part of research into the effects that extreme conditions have on human physiology. The chamber can be used to recreate conditions of low pressure and low oxygen content (up to 8000 metres altitude), low temperatures (to -40 degrees Celsius) and high wind speeds (up to 90 kilometres per hour). A human subject (here using an exercise bike) is monitored and equipment used to record data such as breathing rate, heart rate, body temperature, respiratory gas exchange, blood oxygen content, and cardiac function. This chamber is at a facility of the French national military health research centre (CRSSA), France.
