Abnormal testicle. Light micrograph of tissue from an ectopic testicle. This condition is similar to an undescended testicle, and similar changes in cellular structure are seen. One consequence can be a reduced number of sperm-forming cells. Sperm formation takes place in the seminiferous tubules, seen here (round) in distorted shapes and reduced numbers relative to a normal testicle. In the case of an ectopic testicle, the testicle descends from within the body, but ends up in an abnormal position in the groin. Surgical repositioning of the testicle is the usual treatment.
