Prostate cancer. Urogram (X-ray) of the pelvis of a 60 year old man with cancer of the prostate gland. The prostate is below the bladder (bright white, upper left), it should be clear, but due to the presence of a tumour it appears cloudy. The urethra (centre to bottom right), the tube urine passes through, shows narrowing caused by the pressure from the tumour. This narrowing often leads to problems with passing urine, the main symptom of prostate cancer. The causes of prostate cancer are not known, but it is most prevalent in men over 50 years of age. Treatment is with hormone therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or surgery to remove the prostate.
