False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a woman's fallopian tube infected with the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. The infection is termed non-specific urethritis (NSU), which in this case can be sexually transmitted. Seen here are a number of inclusions, four roughly circular areas (coloured blue) within the fallopian tube. The small red circles inside them are the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. The organisms can multiply rapidly in an infected woman's repro- ductive tract. Magnification: x1760 at 6x4.5cm size.
