MODEL RELEASED. Measuring body temperature. Digital instant ear thermometer being used to measure the core body temperature of a sixteen- month-old girl. A probe (not seen) is inserted into the ear canal. This measures the infrared energy emitted from the eardrum and surrounding tissues, a region that is very close to the body's core temperature regulating region in the hypothalamus. The temperature reading is shown on a digital display (not seen). Normal human body temperature is around 37 degrees Celsius. This thermometer allows easy measurement of the temperature of babies and young children with minimum discomfort.
