Blood sugar level tester for use by diabetic patients. This device measures the level of glucose in the blood. Diabetes is a disorder in which the production of the hormone insulin, which regulates blood glucose levels, is reduced. Diabetic patients need to regularly check their blood glucose levels and inject themselves with insulin if they are abnormal. To use this device, the skin must be pricked to release a drop of blood. The chip (lower right) is then held against the blood, and it sucks up the amount required for the test. The blood glucose level is then displayed on an LCD screen (not seen).
