Haemophilus b vaccine. Boxes and ampules of vaccine which immunise against the Haemophilus influenzae type b or Hib bacterium. This bacterium colonises the upper respiratory tract of virtually every human during the first few months of life. In children under five years of age, due to their immature immune system, it may cause dangerous diseases such as meningitis, epiglottis, septicaemia (blood poisoning), pneumonia or bronchitis. The Hib immunisation consists of three intramuscular injections with a gap of a month between each. Photograph of vaccine intended for use in children who are 13-48 months old.
