MODEL RELEASED. Cancer drug. Syringe being used by a hospital nurse to extract the cancer drug Erbitux from a vial. Also known as cetuximab, this cancer drug is a monoclonal antibody. These are cancer drugs designed to recognise a specific type of protein on a cancer cell. The drug solution will be administered intravenously (through a vein) directly into the patient's bloodstream. This is done during a chemotherapy session. The intention is to kill the cancer cells, but many chemotherapy drugs are also highly toxic chemicals and cause severe side-effects. Photographed on the chemotherapy ward at the Avicene Hospital, Paris, France.
