Epilepsy pills. Box and blister pack of Epilim, a treatment for epilepsy. Each pill contains 200 milligrams of the drug sodium valproate. Epileptic seizures are caused by uncontrolled and excessive electrical brain activity. Epilim increases the amounts of the inhibitory neurotransmitter chemical GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain, decreasing brain activity and thus reducing the risk of seizures.
