Argon laser treatment of port-wine stains (haemangioma). The blue-green light of the laser is selectively absorbed by the red pigment in abnormally enlarged blood vessels that cause the stain. Dilated vessels are burned and sealed off while normal skin tissue is undamaged. Argon laser application to port-wine stain on neck of young girl. (See caption m490/003 for more details)
