MODEL RELEASED. Eye surgery. Image 3 of 3. A flap of cornea (front part of the eye) is being lifted out of the way by a surgeon before laser eye surgery. The cornea was cut open to reveal its inner layers, which will be reshaped by a laser, altering the focusing power of the cornea. This process can be used to treat myopia (short- sightedness) and other focusing defects. After the operation, the flap is replaced and the eye heals rapidly.
