MODEL RELEASED. Post-operative recovery. A female patient is monitored by an anaesthetist following a surgical operation. A grey pulse meter on the finger of the patient is connected to the monitor by her side to measure heartbeat. The anaesthetist is also noting down any signs of nausea or vomiting in the patient. Anaesthetists are responsible for administering anaesthetics, medicines which abolish pain and cause loss of consciousness, to patients during surgery. The anaesthetist monitors the recovery of a patient both during and after surgery. They watch for and treat any complications that might develop as a result of the anaesthetic.
