MODEL RELEASED. Double-exposure view of a laparo- scope examination of the abdomen of a patient by surgeons in an operating theatre. This double- exposure gives the effect of movement. The patient is under general anaesthesia. A laparoscope (a type of endoscope) is a steel tube containing optical fibres, a light source, and often small surgical instruments which may be manipulated by remote control. The instrument permits the surgeons an internal view of body organs, seen on the TV monitors. In this way, injuries, growths, and disorders of the stomach, intestine or female reproductive organs, can be investigated without major surgery.
