Blood sampling tubes. These are vacutainers (tubes containing a vacuum). They are used together with a needle (not seen). The needle is used to pierce a patient's vein (venepuncture), and the vacuum in the tube draws blood out of the vein. The blood is then analysed and checked for disease. The colour of the vacutainer cap can indicate the test to be carried out, or the type of blood.
