Various techniques are being conducted which, in real-life, would not all be done simultaneously. The patient is being given intravenous fluid in his arm, oxygen, and his heartbeat is being monitored. At left the medic is applying an electric shock to his heart with a defibrillator, normally done when no one is touching the patient. This technique is used to restore normal heartbeat when the heart's muscle is beating chaotically fast (ventricular fibril- lation), a common complication of heart attack.
