Heart monitor in use. This display shows the vital signs of a patient. It receives data through wires (centre left) that are connected to electrodes and other sensors on the patient. The different traces show: the heartbeat (top), and two blood pressure measurements (bottom two traces). The numbers (centre right) include the heart rate (69 beats per minute, upper right) and the arterial blood pressure (138/75 mmHg, centre right). In a healthy person at rest, the heart rate can range from 60 to 100 beats per minute. High blood pressure is considered to be anything over 140/90 mmHg.
