MODEL RELEASED. Extra-wide MRI scanner. Radio- logist prepares a woman patient for scanning by an extra-wide MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner designed for the obese or claustrophobic. The patient's head is strapped in order to remain still during brain scanning. Lying flat she is moved through the extra-wide aperture of this scanner. The patient must lie motionless for about 30 minutes. MRI scanners produce slice" images through the human body. They do this by using a powerful magnet and radio waves, which is not potentially harmful like X-rays. The technique is particularly good for studying soft tissues like the brain, spinal cord and blood vessels."
