On the screen (at right) are slice" images obtained of the patient's abdomen. CT scanning combines the use of a computer and fine X-ray beams to produce cross-sectional "slices" through the body. CT scans produce good contrast between soft tissues and bone, and are useful in diagnosing cancerous tumours and other disease."
