Disability. Therapist adjusting the footplate of a disabled man's wheelchair. Correct fitting of wheelchairs is vital to avoid complications, such as pressure sores, which can be life-threatening. Photographed in Cambodia, where the Motivation Charitable Trust began a project in 1993 to design a wheelchair for disabled people. In the absence of regular supplies of tubular steel, the design team worked with locally available hard wood to produce a three-wheel wheelchair with a wooden frame. Three wheels allow the user to cross rough ground more easily than in a conventional four- wheel chair.
