Disability. Therapist assessing the needs of a double leg amputee. This man lost his legs in a land mine explosion. Photographed in Cambodia, where the Motivation Charitable Trust began a project in 1993 to design a wheelchair for land mine victims. In the absence of regular supplies of tubular steel, the design team worked with locally available hard wood to produce a three- wheel wheelchair with a wooden frame. Three wheels allow the user to cross rough ground more easily than in a conventional four-wheel chair. The wooden platform above the small front wheel makes it easier for the user to transfer into and out of the chair.
