Burns. Amnion being used as an emergency dressing for full-thickness (third degree) burns, where no dermis is left. The degree of damage depends on the depth of the burn: first degree burns affect only superficial tissue and heal without scarring, while third degree burns destroy the whole skin layer and leave permanent scars. Second degree burns damage the dermis but leave enough living tissue for the skin to recover.
