Close-up of shingles rash on human skin, caused by presence of the Herpes zoster virus. Shingles often begins with pain along the path of a nerve (in face, chest or abdomen), followed by the development of the vesicular (bubble-like) rash. The diseases usually subsides after about 3 weeks. Herpes zoster also causes chickenpox in children.
