Abstract photograph representing acute paranoid schizophrenia. Paranoid schizophrenia is symptomised by paranoid delusions and thought disorders. Many sufferers perceive that other people's thoughts are being planted into their heads (thought insertion). Other persecutory delusions may include the attaching of odd significance to a normal precept: for example that someone wishes them harm solely because the sufferer sees a chair placed in a certain position in a room. Treatment of schizophrenia is mainly by long-term rehabilitation, whilst the symptoms may be managed by antipsychotic drugs.
