Colonic polyps, endoscope view. These polyps are sessile, attached directly to the colon lining without a stalk. They are abnormal growths that can develop on the inner lining of the intestines. In some cases the polyps can bleed and cause pain and diarrhoea. Some polyps are also known to turn cancerous later in life. To prevent this, they are often removed surgically.
