Neurofibromatosis. Coloured frontal chest X-ray of a patient with the rare inherited disorder neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) or Recklinghausen's disease. Neurofibromatosis causes neurofibromas, tumours of nervous and connective tissue, to form. The tumours usually form on the skin, but they can also be located inside the body. This patient has swollen glands in the lungs (pulmonary adenopathy), and widening of the mediastinum (the space between the lungs), probably due to the presence of neurofibromas.
