MODEL RELEASED. Refugees collecting water. Women at the Briejing Refugee Camp in Chad, home to about 30,000 refugees from Darfur in Sudan. The collection of water is a constant effort for the refugees. Every day, women and children carry jugs and pots of drinking water from distribution points to their tents. To obtain further water for washing clothes, families dig pits in seasonal river beds ('wadis'). These create shallow pools from which water can be scooped out. Photographed in 2004.
