Intussusception of the jejunum, pill camera view. Intussusception is the prolapse of one part of the intestines into the part in front of it, in the same manner as the parts of a collapsible telescope slide into one another. The jejunum is the middle part of the small intestine. Intussusception of the jejunum can cause abdominal pain and swelling, blood in the faeces, nausea and vomiting. If left untreated, blood flow to the prolapsed part may stop, leading to tissue death and necrosis, which can be fatal. Treatment is with a barium or air contrast enema, which can both diagnose and treat the condition, or surgical correction. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera that is swallowed to image the digestive tract.
