Bleeding heart. Gross specimen of a heart that is showing purpural bleeding (red spots). Purpura are small haemorrhages (bleeding) that occur in a set of bleeding disorders. A common cause is when the platelet (thromocyte) count of the patient is low. Platelets are essential for clot formation. Such a purpuric rash can also result from a reaction to a drug.
