Coronary artery disease. Pair of electrocardiogram (ECG, top) and blood pressure traces taken at rest in a patient suffering from coronary artery disease. The lower blood pressure trace reveals a high systolic pressure, represented by successive peaks, when the heart is having to pump hard to push blood around the circulation. The diastolic pressure, during the period of contraction, is relatively low (successive troughs), implying a restricted return flow as the heart dilates ready for the next contraction. Compare with M726/003 which shows changes to the trace during Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EEC) therapy.
