Stork bite birthmark. A stork bite birthmark (haemangioma) on the forehead of a 3-week- old baby. The birthmark appears as a flat, reddish area between the baby's nose and hairline, in the inverted triangle shape characteristic of stork bites. Stork bites appear on 30-50% of newborn babies and consist of an abnormal distribution of small blood vessels in the skin. Like most types of haemangioma, they disappear spontaneously before the baby reaches the age of one.
