Congenital glaucoma. Eye showing congenital glaucoma resulting from abnormal development of the eye. This impedes the outflow of aqueous humour (transparent liquid) from the back of the eye, instead causing the humour to bulge through the lens at the front of the eye. In this case, the pupil and iris of the eye have been completely obscured. The increased pressure within the eye (intraocular pressure) also causes damage to the optic nerve. Congenital glaucoma may be treated surgically.
