Rubeotic glaucoma. Red dilated veins (rubeosis) concurrent with glaucoma (an abnormally high pressure within the eye) are associated with thrombosis (clot formation) in the retinal vein. Retinal vein thrombosis is often secondary to atherosclerosis (arterial hardening) of the nearby retinal artery. Apart from treating this vascular disease, treatment of sight-threatening glaucoma aims to reduce the intraocular pressure using drugs (diuretics) or by surgical drainage.
